I have a small obsession with stationery, so I decided to brighten the kids’ homeschooling with some new supplies. Having colourful, fun things around really helps motivate them.
Paperchase has a whole home-school supplies section, which made it easy to grab bits like stickers and sticky notes. The sticky note block set has been especially handy: each night I write challenges on notes and stick them to the wall. The children choose the ones they want to do, and by the end of the day the notes are usually gone.
The Buddies range cheered the kids up. The slip wallets are great for keeping unfinished work together—at the end of a “lesson” we pop anything that needs finishing into the wallet. I also use them to return marked work so the children can see their feedback.
Little notebooks and playful pens encourage creativity. Isla uses an A6 notebook for reminders and her pretend register, and a squishy pen is perfect for when she needs something to fiddle with. Noah is a big finger-fidget, so the squishy pen really helps him focus. Gel pens add a bit of fun to writing too.
Larger notebooks have been useful for teacher-set work. I print worksheets—like Pobble activities that ask for stories and answers—and the children write their responses in their exercise books. It’s much tidier than having loose sheets floating around and makes handing work back in easier when they return to school.
Storage and water bottles are important for keeping the day running smoothly. I try to tidy away school things at the weekend to keep a bit of normality at home and to hide the school items. A roomy pouch fits sticky notes and pens, and the children always have water with them. The metal water bottle is durable and doesn’t crack when dropped.
I bought some of these items myself and received others as gifts. All opinions and photographs are my own. I put this post together to inspire a little fun with homeschooling stationery.
