When you bring an inflatable paddling pool out of storage after winter, you may find patches of black mould and mildew. To remove it, spray a mould remover formulated for plastics (I used Cillit Bang Black Mould Remover) over the affected areas and let it sit for 5–10 minutes.
Use a large scrubbing brush to work the cleaner into seams and corners — that’s where mildew lingers. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose and repeat the process if necessary. Avoid a jet washer, as the pressure can damage the seams.
Slight staining can remain even after the mould is dead and the surface is clean; these marks are usually harmless. If you discover a puncture, tent repair tape or patch kits for tents and airbeds make a waterproof, budget-friendly repair for inflatable material.
After cleaning and any repairs, let the pool dry completely. Fold it loosely and store it in a dry, well-ventilated place to help prevent mildew from returning.
