LEGO is a firm favourite in our house — it’s one hobby I still enjoy as an adult that I loved as a child (apart from staging pretend restaurants). Over the past few weeks of lockdown we’ve been doing all kinds of LEGO activities: building new sets, playing games and setting creative challenges. Even LEGO employees have been sharing how they’re building from home.
The LEGO Group’s teams around the world have shown how they keep themselves, their families and even their pets curious, creative and connected using LEGO bricks. You can watch the #LetsBuildTogether videos on the LEGO website or on their Facebook page.
At lego.com/letsbuildtogether you can find a daily challenge, see other people’s ideas and join live build-alongs to make fun things at home. Inspired by our Easter LEGO Ludo game, Daddy and Isla invented their own LEGO Noughts & Crosses — very clever. We’ve also been doing seasonal builds — this one was our winter creation.
I stick notes on the wall with things to build and we pull random challenges. Everyone ends up doing something different, which is great. So far we’ve made a house, a vehicle and today we’re trying an animal. I especially loved the Easter egg Isla made on Sunday.
We have lots of sets, and some were mixed up, so we’re going through boxes and rebuilding them. We got new sets for Easter too — Mum got the Harry Potter Knight Bus, which I adore, and I had a lot of fun building it on Easter Sunday.
Another idea from our LEGO Ludo game is to make a LEGO Cluedo. I’ve laid out the pieces I’ll need and will rummage through our collection to find the right suspects and weapons, then build the board. I’m excited to get started and the kids can help choose pieces.
What have you been building at home during lockdown? Any LEGO activities to add to the list? I used to spend hours building houses and pretending the bricks were a family (Mum, Dad and kids) — I might do that again later today.
This post is not an ad; I bought all the LEGO myself. All photos and opinions are my own.
