We’ve loved renovating our home over the past year, and one of the biggest changes was our master bedroom. When we moved in it was very dark and overwhelmingly pink, with dark brown wardrobes and a carpet that felt like cardboard — stained and clearly decades old.
We started by painting the walls white one weekend, and it made a huge difference. The room instantly felt fresher and brighter. We also refreshed the wardrobe doors with grey chalk paint, which lightened the space and gave it a cleaner look.
Next we replaced the awful carpet with light grey Tegola Elite luxury vinyl tiles from Carpetright. An allergy clinic recommended no carpet in my bedroom because I’m allergic to dust, so LVT was perfect. It’s easy to keep clean, feels warm underfoot, and looks like real wood. It’s great for bathrooms and kitchens too.
We bought an ottoman-style bed in a Black Friday sale — the underbed storage is incredibly handy for hiding things or storing spare bedding. We paired it with a Sleep Soul pocket-sprung mattress from Happy Beds that has a Pillowtop. It’s described as medium-firm, but it adapts to your body and the Pillowtop makes it feel really comfy, almost like lying on soft pillows. The mattress came vacuum-packed, was easy to carry upstairs, and expanded within minutes of unwrapping.
The room came together with shelves, curtains, and decorations. We picked curtains and bedding from Dunelm so the colours matched throughout the house. My favourite finishing touch is a dusty blue velvet chair from housecosy — I wanted an occasional chair but space is tight, so I chose a dining-style design. It looks lovely against the greys and ochre tones in the room.
housecosy offered my readers a 10% discount for a limited time when this was posted.
I’m so happy with how the bedroom turned out. A mix of sale finds, a bit of hard work, and some small updates transformed the space without breaking the bank. It’s my little haven and it feels great to go to bed in a room that makes me happy — hopefully it helps with a good night’s sleep too.
I was gifted the flooring by Carpetright, the chair by housecosy, and the mattress by Happy Beds in exchange for my review. All opinions and photos are my own.
