I’m a big fan of Mrs Hinch — her cleaning tips on Instagram (@mrshinchhome) are so inspiring. I’ve always found cleaning calming; if I’m annoyed you’ll often find me scrubbing the kitchen cupboards. With young children and pets, I have to stay on top of it, and lots of people have been cleaning even more during lockdown. Here are five of my favourite hacks:
Clean your mattress with bicarbonate of soda (baking soda). It’s simple and effective — do it once or twice a year to keep your mattress smelling fresh.
Soak a sheet of kitchen roll with Zoflora and leave it in the bin. It’s an easy trick that really works. I also sometimes spray the bin with Poo-Pourri to keep it smelling extra fresh.
Use The Pink Stuff paste cleaner on surfaces with a cloth, like a microfibre. Rub the paste in, then wipe it away with warm water — it cleans brilliantly.
Mayonnaise can remove water stains from wood and furniture. Cover the stain with mayo, leave it overnight, then wipe it clean and polish the wood to restore the shine.
Store clean bedding inside a pillowcase to keep sets together and smelling nice. You can add a little linen spray every couple of weeks to maintain the fresh scent.
I especially love the Zoflora tips — I use it all the time. Since lockdown it’s been harder to buy, but a capful diluted with water fills a trigger spray bottle and lasts for days. A big thank you to End of Tenancy London for sharing these great ideas.
