We recently stayed at Domaine des Ormes with Eurocamp. The resort is an idyllic family spot in the heart of Brittany. There’s plenty to do on site, but the surrounding area has even more to offer. Here are five great day trips nearby.
Dol-de-Bretagne is a short drive away and feels straight out of the past, with narrow streets, timber-framed houses and the impressive Saint-Samson Cathedral. Browse the local markets, explore boutiques and stop at cafés to soak up Breton culture. The town’s history stretches back to figures like William the Conqueror and Henry II.
Mont Saint-Michel is one of France’s most famous sights — a tidal island crowned by a historic abbey. It offers breathtaking views, quaint shops and a rich past; even in the rain it’s spectacular. Expect to pay about €17 for a few hours’ parking and around €3.50 for a chocolate crêpe. You can walk from the car park, take the free shuttle, or pay extra to visit the abbey. It’s roughly a 25-minute drive from Domaine des Ormes.
Saint-Malo, a walled city further along the coast, combines sandy beaches, cobbled streets and a strong maritime history. Walk the ramparts, visit Saint-Malo Cathedral and enjoy fresh seafood at one of the many seaside restaurants.
Cancale is a picturesque fishing village famous for its oyster farms. Stroll the harbour, sample oysters straight from the sea and take in wide coastal views. If oysters aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other places to eat along the quay, and several coastal walks that offer views of Mont Saint-Michel.
Combourg is known for its fairytale château and lovely countryside. The area around the town is great for hiking and cycling, and the lively local markets sell fresh produce, seafood, handmade crafts and souvenirs — a true taste of Breton life.
Brittany is also famous for its food. Try traditional crêpes, galettes and fresh seafood at local restaurants and markets. Many towns have charming spots where you can enjoy the region’s specialties.
Whether you’re drawn to history, nature or local culture, the area around Eurocamp Domaine des Ormes has something for everyone. Take time to explore and you’ll discover the heritage and scenery that make Brittany so special.
